Bing is critical for ChatGPT visibility because it's the search engine ChatGPT uses to fetch real-time web information. A site well-positioned on Bing has a much higher chance of being cited by ChatGPT than a site optimized exclusively for Google — and a site blocking Bingbot is simply invisible to ChatGPT, regardless of any other content or SEO investment.

The technical relationship between Bing and ChatGPT

When a user asks ChatGPT a question with the search feature enabled, the model consults Bing's index to supplement its response with updated data. This real-time search is what allows ChatGPT to answer questions about recent events, specific companies, and current prices — information not in the model's static training.

Microsoft Copilot — integrated into Windows, Edge, Microsoft 365, and Bing.com — also uses the same Bing index as its foundation. This means optimizing for Bing is simultaneously optimizing for two of the market's leading AI assistants.

  • Greater sensitivity to text structure: Bing responds well to content organized with clear headings, direct answers, and concrete data — exactly the pattern recommended for AIO

This creates a real opportunity window for companies that arrived late to Google SEO: on Bing, the competition isn't yet consolidated.

ChatGPT registered 310.67 million accesses in Brazil in August 2025, dominating 99% of the generative AI market (Cadastra + Similarweb).   • Checking robots.txt to confirm Bingbot and GPTBot are allowed
